# Studying biochemistry at a world-leading university

Tereza Mikovcová has been conducting research at the Czech Academy of Sciences since she was sixteen. We supported her biochemistry studies at Imperial College London.

## WE SUPPORTED A YOUNG SCIENTIST

Tereza is exceptionally dedicated to biochemistry. While still at secondary school, she secured an internship at the Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences on her own initiative. Her results helped the laboratory win a prestigious grant. She has carried out measurements at a leading neutron research reactor in France and studied bacteria that cause serious diseases during an internship in Switzerland.

At Imperial College London, she hopes to build on her research, help combat antibiotic resistance and contribute to the development of new medicines. Following Brexit, however, tuition fees for Czech students quadrupled and access to government student loans was withdrawn. This is why we decided to support her.

*"We support Tereza because she combines exceptional talent with the determination to take on one of the greatest challenges in modern medicine. We believe in opening doors for young people like her, so they can develop their talents to the full and one day give back to Czech science,“* says Jan Sýkora, Partner at WOOD & Company.
